An Everlasting Kingdom and An Everlasting King

An everlasting Kingdom and an everlasting King

8. But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. 9.Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. The above quotation from Ps.45:6-7, that is written to commemorate the marriage of one of the kings of Israel. At the same time certain thing of these verses could never be said of human monarch. First of all Psalmist looks at the King of Jerusalem, but then he looks beyond him to the great King who is still to come.

10. And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: 11. They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; 12. And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.

These verses quote Psalm 102:25-27. Look at Psalm 102:23-24, it is Messiah who speaks, pleading that he should not be cut off. Verses 24b-27 are the Lords answer, his words of reassurance to Messiah.

1.Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. Is it really so bad to close one’s ears to God? Is it really a sin to sit in church irritated and bored by it all? Through the preacher God offers a great salvation, if you reject it what will be the result?

2. For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; Bible says the old covenant was given by angels – Deut.33:2; Acts7:38, 53; Gal.3:19. Nevertheless, though the angels acted as intermediaries, the message that was given to Moses came from God himself.

3. How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; 4. God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

The most tragic people on earth are those who neglect God. They miss the great salvation. God is always faithful to his character. He never loves at the expense of his holiness. He punishes with utmost rigors, the sin that has offended his holy nature, but it is not the sinner who suffers the punishment.
